Georg Kell

Georg is the founder and former Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact — the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, which he built and led for over 25 years — and now chairs the Anglo-German asset manager Arabesque Partners. German-born and trained in economics and engineering at Technische Universität Berlin, he began as a financial analyst covering multinational portfolios across Asia and Africa, before a long UN career spanning UNCTAD in Geneva and New York and the executive office of the Secretary-General. In 2015 he was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people in business ethics.

On the Woodrow Influence Council, Georg brings unmatched authority on how business earns legitimacy in an age of stakeholder scrutiny. He effectively wrote the global rulebook on corporate responsibility. He understands, better than almost anyone, how human rights, labour, environmental and anti-corruption principles translate into reputation, capital and licence to operate. His perspective sharpens our counsel for clients navigating ESG, sustainable finance and the credibility demands of the world stage.
