Government of Maldives: Elevating the Maldives on the Global Stage

The President of the Maldives hosted the once-in-a-decade Small Island States Conference, using the crucial international event to shape his premiership's global agenda on climate change and sustainability. Woodrow was engaged to position the President as a global thought leader and ensure the Maldives emerged as a central voice advocating for small island nations, moving from participant to agenda-setter on one of the defining policy questions of our time.

Impact

The campaign significantly enhanced the President's international standing, establishing him as a leading global voice on climate finance and sustainability. Extensive media coverage solidified the Maldives' credibility, leading to increased attention from international financial institutions including the World Bank. This directly drove multilateral support for major projects. The conference set the tone for the President's tenure, elevating the Maldives to the forefront of global policy discussions and reinforcing its strategic importance in climate finance negotiations.

Approach

We travelled to the Maldives for an intensive week-long immersion with the President and his senior policy team, conducting strategic planning sessions and detailed media training. We developed a communications strategy focused on sustainability, climate finance and international diplomacy. Ahead of the conference, we secured BBC and Reuters interviews, authored influential opinion pieces in The Guardian, and structured the President's panel discussions, speeches and diplomatic briefings, ensuring precise messaging alignment with international partners, Commonwealth countries and key development stakeholders.
