Lightrock: Supporting a Leading Climate Impact Investor
Lightrock is a global investment platform backing purpose-driven companies, advising on more than $5.5 billion in assets and invested in over 90 companies worldwide including Octopus Energy, Sunfire and Moniepoint. They planned to announce a landmark climate capital initiative backed by leading institutional investors. With significant global relevance ahead of COP30, the announcement faced considerable communications complexities around regulatory compliance, investor expectations and media scrutiny.
Impact
The announcement launched successfully, achieving coordinated global media coverage. The carefully managed narrative shifted discussions from near-term scrutiny towards long-term global impact, allowing Lightrock to confidently establish its climate credentials and bolster its reputation across complex political and regulatory landscapes, demonstrating that rigorous communications planning is itself a form of competitive advantage in this space.
Approach
Our aim was to position the initiative as a significant moment in climate finance, relevant to global policy discussions in advance of COP30. We produced clear internal 'golden rules' for regulatory compliance, providing all group entities with a unified voice. We crafted a detailed, compliant Q&A anticipating challenging journalist questions on governance and greenwashing, and developed targeted regional media strategies, placing the announcement strategically across influential outlets in the Global South and international financial media.
